Moving House Is Not Fun

It’s been a while since I thought about this blog. The main reason is that I’ve been busy moving.

Before the move, my mind was constantly stressed and focused mainly on the closing. I kept thinking that there shouldn’t be any last-minute surprises. By God’s grace, everything went more smoothly than I expected.

From the day of closing, I started thinking about the actual move. When I looked around my old house, I was pretty confident that I could fit everything into one or two trips in a cargo van.

I was so confident because I had already sold my sofa set, extra chairs, and lots of other stuff I wasn’t using. The plan was to buy everything new for the new house, which would also mean having fewer things to move. This decision was actually my wife’s, and it came in handy!

BUT, I vastly underestimated the amount of stuff sitting in the racks, closets and, most importantly, my kid’s toys.

It took four trips with the cargo van and multiple trips in my car to move everything.

Moving is one thing, but settling in is a completely different beast.

It’s been two weeks since we moved, but we’re still living among boxes. That said, we’re fully functional in the new house. The first things we sorted out were our office, bedrooms, and closets. None of those spaces are huge, but getting them organized meant we could start living normally in the new place, even if we were still getting our food from nearby cafés and restaurants.

The next big project is the kitchen. Once the kitchen is sorted, we’ll be almost fully settled because all the essentials will be covered.

The final remaining boxes are mostly the kids’ toys, and unfortunately, they take up the most space.

And don’t even get me started on the backyard. There’s probably enough work out there to keep us busy for an entire week.

I have no idea when we’ll finally feel completely settled. At this point, we just want to get everything done before winter hits.

I once heard someone say something like, “I hope your new house becomes your home.” I don’t remember the exact wording, but that sentiment has stayed with me.

I just hope that becomes true for us.
